Favored To Win: A Conversation (2017)

Favored To Win: A Conversation is staged martial arts sparring among three trained athletes. Marcela Torres, Chase Calloway, and Jesse Meredith. Together the three put themselves at stake in order to physically embody the the roles we’ve been placed in through our race and gender, playing into it and subverting it.

When there is a competition, how do we choose who we want to see win? Is it inherent to take sides with our friends? To believe they deserve to be the victor no matter what the competition is about? How do we decide who are our “friends”? Who are our kin? And why should they win? Are we conscious of our biases?
